As an orthopaedic technician, you'll work alongside orthopaedic surgeons to care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries. From applying casts and splints to assisting with traction and wound care, you'll blend technical precision with compassion, helping patients heal and restore mobility across healthcare settings.
What You Need to Know in 30 Seconds
The Orthopaedic Technician Diploma at Anderson College is a 47-week, in-person program with 330 hours of clinical experience across three practicums. Students work alongside orthopaedic teams in hospitals, fracture clinics, and orthopaedic practices, blending classroom study with hands-on training in clinical labs and real-world placements.
The curriculum covers orthopaedic principles and practices, anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system, medical terminology, patient communication, application and removal of casts, splints, and traction devices, wound management and sterile techniques, orthopaedic surgical assisting and operating-room preparation, radiology basics and image interpretation, musculoskeletal assessment and patient positioning, orthopaedic disorders and treatment planning, emergency care, First Aid, CPR, patient safety, and infection control.
Classes are led by instructors with orthopaedic expertise, backed by Anderson's 140+ year commitment to student success and alumni-network access. Career services — resume building, interview preparation, and job-fair access — are available for life.
