As we all have, Anderson College students have faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to focus on the triumphs and celebrate the courage and tenacity of our community, we launched a My 2020 Story Campaign. Students were asked a few poignant questions to spark the sharing of their experiences and insights. The response was overwhelming and, in the process, we have been blown away by their authentic sharing and inspired by the powerful lessons they have learned. We are grateful to all those who contributed and are richer for having you in our Anderson family.

Here is one such story, for you …

2020 was an unforgettable year for me because it was a time when my faith, perseverance, self-confidence, patience and abilities were tested alongside my mental and physical health. Being a wife, mother, worker and student all at the same is not a piece of cake. I struggled but never gave up. I worked hard and studied harder and thank God I survived and successfully finished my chosen course with a good standing. Pursue your dreams now. Do not procrastinate.

I used to be content with what I had and who I was before I became a part of the Anderson College family. Until one day I was browsing my social media account and saw a picture of my high school friend in a graduation cap and gown. I was curious and began looking into colleges and opportunities on the Internet. I researched my options and called the Admissions Team and inquired about the process.

“I connected with the amazing staff at Anderson and Jun helped me to understand the opportunities that going back to school would offer, empowering me to have a better career and greater success in the future.“

I must admit, even though I had the information, I procrastinated in the beginning because I had no idea how I would manage my time for my family, work and school. Luckily, I connected with the amazing staff at Anderson and Jun helped me to understand the opportunities that going back to school would offer, empowering me to have a better career and greater success in the future. Both Jun and Jonah gave their all in helping me prepare and submit my application, and I got approved! I want to mention what this path has meant for me, as I got the very last spot in the MOA program in our batch. I was thrilled.

Then this pandemic hit and suddenly we needed to stay home and go out for essential purposes only. As a frontline worker I experienced incredible mental and physical stress and I felt like I was on the edge, ready to give up my studies. I was exhausted and our lessons and the information I was being taught wasn’t sinking in. I just felt so tired. But then, when I thought more deeply about it, I realized the sacrifices made by the people who helped me get in to school, those people who believed in me and I thought of my family.

“I am incredibly grateful that I was able to inspire others to pursue their dreams as well. Always remember if others can do it, you can too!”

At work, every time my coworkers praised me about having good time management skills, being able to juggle what I needed to do for my family, my work and school I felt more and more inspired and motivated to finish what I started. Also, some of my co-workers, as well as my friends, decided to enroll in courses for themselves. I am incredibly grateful that I was able to inspire others to pursue their dreams as well. Always remember if others can do it, you can too! Do not procrastinate. Your ‘right time’ is now!

I hope my story will inspire others to make their dreams come true, to gain their self-confidence and self-respect. No matter how big the hindrances that come your way may seem, just focus on the light on the other side of that dark tunnel. Always be positive and have faith in everything you do. For me, it has made all the difference.
